    The information contained in this Police Blotter has been compiled and released at the discretion of the West Milford Township Police Department and does not represent the entire scope of activity for the time period. However, in the spirit of transparency, the police department strives to release all information that can be released without compromising ongoing investigations or causing unnecessary harm to victims.

    DWI
    On December 2, 2018 at approximately 10:22 PM West Milford Police responded to the area of Union Valley Road and Beacon Hill Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon Officer Jason Lowenfeld’s arrival, he observed a four door silver Subaru had crashed into a rock retaining wall. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 42 year old Nicole Solar of West Milford. After exhibiting signs of intoxication, and failing her sobriety tests, the accused was placed under arrest for DWI. She was transported to police headquarters for processing. The accused was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to keep right. She was released to a family member and is awaiting her first municipal court date.
    DWI & CDS Arrest
    On December 8, 2018 at approximately 12:20 AM West Milford Police Officer Jonathan Bregman observed a speeding vehicle on Greenwood Lake Turnpike. As the officer went after the driver of the speeding vehicle, he observed the vehicle drive off the road and into a small rock wall. The driver continued driving before pulling into the BP gas station. The officer pulled up near the driver as the driver was exiting his vehicle and observed two flat tires on the passenger side. The driver was identified as 29 year old West Milford resident, Steven Castronova.
    As the driver went back to his vehicle to retrieve his paperwork, the officer observed a beer can in the passenger side door compartment.
    The officer also detected signs of intoxication from the driver and after failing his sobriety tests was placed under arrest for DWI. As the officer went to retrieve the open container of beer, he also observed other open containers of alcohol along with a “crack pipe” sticking out of cigarette pack and other drug paraphernalia. The accused was transported to police headquarters and processed. The driver was charged criminally with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given motor vehicle summonses for DWI, open containers, speeding, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and several other infractions. He was released to a friend to await his first court date.
    Disorderly Conduct Arrest
    On December 8, 2018 at approximately 12:40 AM West Milford Officers Thomas Connors, Matthew Kloo and Robert Kulawiak responded to the Grasshopper Irish Pub on a report of an intoxicated patron bothering customers and staff. Upon officers arrival, it was learned that the patron had broken a railing at the establishment prior to police arrival. The patron was identified as 30 year old Daniel Caccavale of Kenvil, NJ. While speaking with the officers he began to take his clothes off and refused to obey officers directions to stop undressing. He was eventually placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was also charged with criminal mischief for breaking the railing.
    DWI
    On December 8, 2018 at approximately 11PM West Milford Police Officer Matthew Kloo observed a vehicle on Clinton Road drive partially off the roadway and back onto the roadway nearly causing an accident with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The officer was able to stop the driver near the boat launch and identified the driver as 37 year old Jason Fisher from Hewitt, NJ. After observing signs of intoxication the driver was asked to perform sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to police headquarters for processing. At headquarters the accused was charged with DWI, careless driving, failure to exhibit insurance, and refusal to submit to breath tests. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court date.
    DWI
    On December 18, 2018 at approximately 5:50 PM West Milford Police Officers Amy Antonucci and Thomas Connors responded to a local business on a report of an unconscious party inside a vehicle. Upon their arrival the officers observed a confused female, identified as 37 year old Morgan Hammond of West Milford, sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle. While speaking with the female, officers observed signs of intoxication. The woman failed her sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DWI. She was transported to police headquarters and charged with DWI, improper parking, and careless driving. She was released to a relative and is awaiting her first court date.
    Burglary and Theft
    On December 26, 2018, West Milford Detective Michael Malfetti charged 19 year old West Milford resident Corey Van Tassell with burglary and theft. The charges stem from an incident from December 21, 2018 when Officer Charles McQuaid observed a dirt bike being driven on Macopin Road. The driver was identified as Van Tassell and the dirt bike was impounded. It was later learned the dirt bike was stolen but had not been reported to the police at the time. In addition to the impounded dirt bike, two other dirt bikes were recovered from Van Tassell’s property belonging to the same victim. Van Tassell was charged with 3 counts of burglary and 3 counts of theft. He was released and awaiting his first court appearance.
    DWI
    On December 22, 2018 at approximately 12:15 AM West Milford Police were notified about a car travelling on Route 23 South in the wrong direction in the area of Union Valley Road. West Milford Officer Kevin Canova passed the vehicle while travelling in the right lane of Route 23 South. The officer made a u-turn onto Route 23 North and was able to finally stop the car at Canistear Road, after the driver travelled approximately 3 miles in the wrong direction. The driver was identified as 38 year old Altin Zhuleku of Rockaway, NJ. After exhibiting signs of intoxication and failing his sobriety tests, the driver was arrested for DWI and transported to headquarters for processing. The driver was charged with DWI, driving the wrong way on a one way street and careless driving. He was released to a relative and is awaiting his first court date.
    CDS Arrest
    On December 23, 2018 at approximately 1:10 AM West Milford Police Officer Michael Onembo observed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at Lakeside Road and Greenwood Lake Turnpike. The driver of the vehicle was stopped and identified as 23 year old Danielle Shuhnicki of Hewitt. While speaking with the driver, the officer observed in plain view packaging consistent with CDS use. The officer retrieved three bags of marijuana from the vehicle. Driver was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. She was released on a criminal summons for possession of marijuana, under 50 grams.

    CDS & Weapons Arrest
    On December 27, 2018 at approximately 4:00PM West Milford Police were called about an erratic driver travelling on Route 23 North. A vehicle description and license plate were supplied to police. Officer Matthew Kloo located the vehicle and observed motor vehicle violations prior to stopping the vehicle near Canistear Road. The driver was identified as 29 year old Matt Kaegi of Netcong, NJ. While speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of nervousness along with inconsistencies in the information provided by the driver. Officer Peter Pogorzelski of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene with his K-9 Nero to perform a sniff on the vehicle. The K-9 indicated a positive alert and a search of the vehicle resulted in a handgun being located. The driver was also arrested for possession of paraphernalia and possession of a prescription legend drug (oxycodone). He was transported to police headquarters where he also received motor vehicle summonses for failure to signal turn, failure to maintain a lane and CDS in a motor vehicle. He was remanded to the Passaic County Jail to await his CJP court date.
    DWI
    On December 31, 2018 at approximately 2:00PM West Milford Police Officers were notified of an erratic driver on Warwick Turnpike.
    According to the caller, the driver was travelling into the oncoming traffic lane and almost ran another vehicle off the roadway. The driver was reported to have pulled into the old Patriots Deli parking lot where Officer Michael Onembo located the driver. When the officer arrived the driver had her head against the driver’s side window and appeared to be sleeping. After knocking on the window the driver eventually woke up. The officer identified the driver as 50 year old Maureen Selleroli of Ringwood, NJ. After exhibiting signs of intoxication and being unable to perform sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest for DWI. The driver was transported to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with DWI, reckless driving and open container in a motor vehicle and was released to a relative.
