The information contained in this Police Blotter has been compiled and released at the discretion of the West Milford Twp. Police Dept. and does not represent the entire scope of activity for the time period. However, in the spirit of transparency, the Police Dept. strives to release all information that can be released without compromising ongoing investigations or causing unnecessary harm to victims.

Burglary/Theft Arrest
On June 4, 2019 West Milford Police Officer Robert Kulawiak took a theft report from a residence on Westbrook Road in which a 2010 Yamaha dirt bike was stolen from a garage. The next day the victim reported that his friend had seen the dirt bike being driven on Marshall Hill Road. Detectives Nicholas Snook and Donald Fantasia checked the area and located the stolen dirt bike. Standing next to the dirt bike was 20 year old Corey Vantassell of West Milford. He was placed under arrest and charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He was transported to the Passaic County Jail to await his first court hearing.

Theft/Paraphernalia Arrest
On June 9, 2019 at approximately 3:20 PM West Milford Police were notified by Vernon Police to be on the lookout for a vehicle which had just committed a theft from the Acme in Vernon. After receiving a description of the vehicle and the license plate, Officer Andrew Petrucelli located the vehicle travelling on Route 23 South near Cross Road. He was able to conduct a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as 33 year old Kyle Steins from Wayne, NJ. It was determined that the driver had several active warrants from several different jurisdictions and was driving while suspended. The two passengers in the vehicle were identified as 30 year old Courtney Zona and 28 year old Marc Zona of Jefferson, NJ. Inside the vehicle officers discovered drug paraphernalia and hypodermic syringes along with 6 cases of Monster Energy drinks and 5 cases of Red Bull which were stolen from the Acme. Mr. Steines was charged with driving while suspended and was released from his warrants, ROR. Mr. and Ms. Zona were charged with possession of syringes and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were transported to the Passaic County Jail to await their first court appearance. The stolen merchandise was released to Vernon PD where they were charged accordingly.

DWI/MVA
On June 13, 2019 at approximately 9:10 PM West Milford Patrol Officer Michael Onembo responded to Lake Shore Drive on a report of an overturned vehicle in the roadway. Upon his arrival he located the driver of the overturned vehicle who had already got himself out of the vehicle. The driver and lone occupant was identified as 58 year old West Milford resident Kerry Wells. While speaking with the driver the officer detected signs of intoxication and after failing his sobriety tests the driver was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with DWI, disregard of marked lanes and failure to exhibit a valid insurance card. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court date.

MVA/DWI
On June 17, 2019 at approximately 11:00 AM West Milford Police responded to Route 23 North near New City Road on a report of a motorcycle accident. Upon Officer Michael Onembo’s arrival he located the 2000 green Kawasaki on its side with the owner/driver standing nearby unhurt. The driver was identified as 55 year old Charles Faulls of Pompton Plains, NJ. While speaking with the driver the officer observed signs of intoxication. After failing his sobriety tests the driver was placed under arrest for DWI. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with DWI, unregistered motorcycle and careless driving. He was released to a friend and is awaiting his first court date.

DWI
On June 22, 2019 at approximately 2:00 AM, West Milford Police Officer Jonathan Bregman responded to Vineland Road on a report of a motorcycle down. Upon the officers arrival, he observed an off road dirt bike partially laying on the driver who was identified as 25 year old Jason Scala of Hewitt, NJ. The driver appeared passed out on the ground with the dirt bike laying partially on top of him. It was determined that the accused did not crash but rather lost his balance and fell off the dirt bike. After waking the driver, the officer detected signs of intoxication. The accused admitted to driving the dirt bike prior to stopping and falling off it. The officer conducted sobriety tests which the accused failed. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with DWI, no registration, no insurance and several other violations. He was released to a family member and is awaiting his first court appearance.

DWI
On June 23, 2019 at approximately 2:35 AM, West Milford Police Officer Thomas Connors responded to Route 23 North and High Crest Drive on a report of a motorcycle accident. Upon the officers arrival, officers from the Butler Police Department were already on the scene. According to the Butler officers, when they arrived the driver of the motorcycle was attempting to get on the motorcycle and leave the scene, even though the motorcycle was not drivable. The driver was identified as 30 year old Bryce Warden of West Milford. When the officer spoke with the driver he detected signs of intoxication. He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters to be processed. The accused was charged with DWI, refusal to submit breath samples, no insurance, unregistered vehicle, failure to maintain a lane and careless driving. He was released to a family member to await his first court date.

DWI
On June 25, 2019 at approximately 4:00 PM, West Milford Police Officer Jill Brickman responded to Bunker Hill Road on a report of an intoxicated driver. The caller informed police that she was being tailgated by a driver who followed her onto Bunker Hill Road. The caller and other residents assisted the driver out of his car after he stopped in the roadway. The officer identified the driver as 21 year old Jamie Ritz of West Milford, NJ. While speaking to the driver the officer observed signs of intoxication. The driver was asked to perform sobriety tests but was unable to do so. He was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with DWI and released to a family member and is awaiting his first court appearance.

CDS Arrest
On June 26, 2019 at approximately 12:45 PM West Milford Police were alerted by a caller who gave a description and license plate of a vehicle whose occupants were consuming alcohol. Officer Michael Onembo observed the vehicle travelling with several equipment violations. The officer stopped the car on Route 23 North near Cross Road. The driver was identified as 20 year old Leones Bermudezeuceda of Yonkers, NY. While speaking with the driver, the officer smelt the odor of burnt marijuana in the vehicle. A passenger identified as 24 year old Lesleigh Williams of Yonkers, NY was determined to have marijuana in her purse. Also located in the vehicle was an empty bottle of Hennessy and plastic cups. Ms. Williams was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana and transported to police headquarters. She was charged with less than 50 grams of marijuana and released on a summons. The driver received motor vehicle summonses for CDS in a motor vehicle, open container and obstructed view. He was released at the scene of the motor vehicle stop.
