THEFT AND WANTED PERSON ARREST

On October 18, 2019 West Milford Police Officer Rosario Domicolo responded to a Scenic Road address on a report of a burglary and theft of a 2007 Kawasaki dirt bike. Information was obtained later in the day that numerous people observed a similar dirt bike in the area of Westbrook Road. Det. Nicholas Snook began a follow up investigation a developed a suspect. The following afternoon he was able to locate the dirt bike at a Paradise Road address. Det. Snook was also able to obtain surveillance video footage of Corey Vantassell Jr., 20 of West Milford in possession of the dirt bike. It was also determined that Vantassell Jr. was also a wanted person out of Passaic County for failure to appear for court for a June arrest for another burglary and theft charge. Vantassell Jr. was later arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Assault on Law Enforcement, Contempt, and Obstruction Administration of Law. He was transported to Passaic County Jail pending initial his CJP hearing in Passaic County Superior Court.

DWI

On October 4, 2019 at 4:21 PM West Milford Police received several 911 calls reporting a gray Ford traveling north on Route 23 unable to maintain its lane. West Milford Police Officers Denis Welch, Kevin Canova, and Michael Weber located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Upon making contact with the driver Stephen Gillen Jr, 46 of Kinnelon, officers observed signs of impairment.

After failing standard field sobriety tests, Gillen Jr. was arrested for DWI. He was processed and charged additionally with careless driving, delaying the flow of traffic, required wearing of seat belts and failure to notify change of address before being released to a family member pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.

DWI/WARRANT ARREST

On October 8, 2019 at 2:55 PM West Milford Police received a 911 call reporting a black Nissan SUV traveling north on Route 23 unable to maintain its lane.

Officers Jordan Primavera and Andrew Petrucelli located the vehicle on Route 23

North and conducted a motor vehicle stop. On approach of the car, Officer Primavera made contact with the driver and lone occupant Michael Maguire, 30 of Vernon. Officer Primavera observed a small glass vodka bottle in Maguire’s back pocket and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Maguire’s breath. After failing standard field sobriety tests Maguire was placed under arrest for DWI. He was processed and charged additionally with refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, open container in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain a lane, failure to stop and yield to emergency vehicle, and operating after suspension. Maguire was also found to have open warrants out of Elmwood Park and Belmar. The warrants were satisfied and he was released to a friend pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH RESULTS IN DWI ARREST

On October 15, 2019 at 5:08 PM West Milford Police Officers Lewis Rose, Michael Weber, and Suzanne Novakowski responded to the intersection of Union Valley Road and Bearfort Road for a motor vehicle crash with injuries. On arrival Officers found that a 2010 Jeep SUV operated by Sarah Vanwyck, 64 of West Milford had struck a 2007 Ford Fusion operated by Thomas Millard, 72 of Hewitt. While speaking to Vanwyck, Officer Weber observed signs of intoxication. After failing standard field sobriety tests, Vanwyck was arrested for DWI. She was processed and charged additionally with careless driving, and obstructed view. She was released to a friend pending first appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.

DWI

On October 20, 2019 at 02:09 AM West Milford Police Dispatch received a 911 call of a gray Honda van travelling south on Macopin Road unable to maintain its lane. Officer Stephen Herzog located the van on Macopin Road and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Officer Herzog made contact with the driver and lone occupant Christine Sondermeyer, 48 of West Milford. While speaking to Sondermeyer Officer Herzog observed signs of intoxication. After failing standard field sobriety

tests Sondermeyer was placed under arrest for DWI. She was processed and charged additionally with refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, and obstruction of view. She was released to a friend pending initial appearance in West Milford Court.

DWI

On October 23, 2019 at 11:40 PM West Milford Police Sergeant Thomas Valente was patrolling Route 23 North when he observed a 2018 white Hyundai Elantra travelling at a high rate of speed and failing to maintain its lane. Sergeant Valente conducted a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the driver and lone occupant Tracy Wood, 47 of East Hanover, NJ. While speaking to Wood, Sergeant Valente observed signs of intoxication. After failing standard field sobriety tests Wood was arrested for DWI. She was transported to West Milford Police Department for processing and charged additionally with failure to maintain a lane and speeding.

She was released to a friend pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.

DWI

On October 26, 2019 at 11:40 PM West Milford Police Officer James McMahon was patrolling Route 23 South near the Lakeland Plaza when he observed a white 2018 Jeep Cherokee come to an abrupt stop in the roadway on a green light. The Jeep then attempted to pull into the shoulder but was not completely out of the right lane of travel. Officer McMahon conducted a traffic stop to investigate. He made contact with the driver Kristin Martini, 37 of Tompkins Cove, NY. Officer McMahon observed signs of intoxication. Officer Michael Onembo arrived on scene to assist. After failing field sobriety tests Martini was arrested for DWI. She was processed and charged additionally with careless driving and released to a family member pending initial appearance in West Milford Municipal Court.
