The West Milford High School soccer teams had another up-and-down week, with the girls’ squad getting a tie between two losses and the boys splitting their games so far.

The Lady Highlanders won its first four games of the season, but Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Pascack Hills was its second defeat in the past week.

The away match followed a home tie with Wayne Hills in which each team scored in the first half yet couldn’t get back in the goal again in the second.

The final score was 1-1 and the tie followed a Sept. 18 Lady Highlanders’ loss to Ramsey at home.

It was a close match, with a final score of 3-2, but West Milford goalie Gabrielle Soreco’s 12 saves just weren’t enough for the win.

The boy’s team, meanwhile, shutout Pascack Hills at home on Tuesday for its third win of the season.

The final score was 3-0.

Juniors Michael Michielini and Luke Milko each scored a goal in the match, while sophomore Ryan Gabel scored the third.

Seniors Brandon Messina and Jose Suarez assisted on two of those goals.

Milko had the assist on the third goal, and West Milford goalie Anthony Granata had seven saves in the win.

The victory followed a 4-1 loss to Wayne Valley in Wayne on Saturday in which the Highlanders were shut out in the second half.

The score was 2-1 at the break, but Wayne Valley was able to add two more goals to its total in the second half while keeping West Milford scoreless.

The boy’s team (3-5) will try to make it two wins in a row on Thursday when it’s scheduled to travel to Fair Lawn to play the Cutters, while the 4-2-1 Lady Highlanders will try to get back in the win column against Fair Lawn at home, also on Thursday.
