Game of ‘throws’ seats Black Widows on championship throne

The West Milford Girls Softball Association Recreational League held its Majors Division Championship Game on June 21.
Following single elimination playoff games played in early June, Majors Team 1, the "Black Widows," sponsored by West Milford Dairy Queen, faced off against Majors Team 5, the "Hornets," sponsored by West Milford PBA 162 in the league's Championship Game at Bubbling Springs Park.
After being postponed by rain several times, both teams came ready and were eager to play the game.
Both teams came ready to play, making it an exciting game for players and spectators alike.
The teams took turns being in the lead throughout the game with fantastic batting, base-running, and stealing.
Both teams defenses threw impressive pitches, made some great stops and catches in the field, and forced several close plays on the bases with strong throws.
The Hornets took an early lead in the game with some big hits, speedy base-running and stealing, and making strong defensive plays.
The Black Widows edged into the lead by the bottom of the sixth inning with big hits and several stolen bases of their own, and were leading by four runs when the Hornets took its final turn at bat in the top of the seventh and final inning of the game.
The Black Widows' defense cocooned the sting of the Hornets' bats for the win, holding them to a final score of 12-8.
Players from the two competitive teams of friends congratulated each other on a game well-played.
Coaches then called up each player to acknowledge their individual contributions to their teams, and awarded each with their respective first or second place trophies.
