Girls lacrosse team wins division

WEST MILFORD. Highlanders compile a perfect record of 7-0 to claim the championship for the second year in a row.

The West Milford High School girls lacrosse team wrapped up its second straight divisional championship Saturday afternoon, May 13 with a dominating 12-2 decision over Fair Lawn at home.

With the win, West Milford finished with a perfect record of 7-0 in the American South Division of the New Jersey Interscholastic Girls Lacrosse League.

A year ago, the Highlanders finished tied with Fair Lawn, with identical 5-1 marks in the American South Division, but had defeated Fair Lawn head-to-head.

On Saturday, West Milford (13-2) was led by Paige Fava (four goals, three assists, two draw control), Trista Starr (four goals), Lily Kreutzer (two goals, two assists, two ground balls), Adison Arciniega (two goals), Kailey Maskerines (one assist, three ground balls, six draw controls) and goalie Amanda O’Brien (five saves).

West Milford is averaging 10.5 goals per game this season, led by Fava (47 goals, 14 assists), Starr (39 goals, five assists), Maskerines (27 goals, 23 assists), Arciniega (17 goals, five assist) and Vivian Sirnik (13 goals, nine assists).

The Highlanders are scheduled to play at Pascack Valley at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20 in the regular-season finale.

Boys volleyball

The fourth-seeded Highlanders earned a 25-18, 25-23 victory over fifth-seeded Wayne Hills in the quarterfinal round of the Passaic County Tournament on Saturday afternoon at home.

West Milford (12-5) was scheduled to play at top-seeded Passaic Tech in the semifinal round Wednesday, May 17 at Clifton High School, with second-seeded Wayne Valley meeting third-seeded Passaic Charter in the other semifinal.

The championship match is slated for Saturday, May 20 at Wayne Hills High School.

Against Wayne, Hills, West Milford was steered by Jayden Huber (28 assists, three digs), Sean McNally (10 digs, eight kills), Matthew Landoline (six digs, three kills), Michael Paulison (eight digs), Kyle Arciniega (three digs), Andre Christ (nine kills, three digs), Aiden Rosenberg (two digs, one block, one ace) and Lorenzo Galante (one kill).

Baseball

The Highlanders earned their third victory of the season Monday, May 8 with a 5-4 decision over Fair Lawn at home.

West Milford trailed, 4-3, before scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth and the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.

Jake Schwarzlow went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, an RBI and a run; Bryant Carrion tripled in two runs; Ryan Lombardi doubled and scored; and Ryan Lombardi doubled, scored a run and walked four times to pace the offense. Brandon Scriment went the distance, scattering 10 hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

West Milford (3-18) was scheduled to play host to Bergen Tech at 6 p.m. Friday, May 19.

Softball

The Highlanders won their sixth game of the season Friday, May 12 when they defeated Paterson Kennedy, 12-1, in five innings on the road.

Ally Gruber twirled a two-hitter with six strikeouts and five walks and Hayley Allwood was 2-for-3 with two triples, four RBI and two runs to pace the decision.

Mia Biancamano added a single, a triple and three runs, and Krista Keller was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run. Cassy Rubinsky was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run, and Abagail Viering went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
