Lady Highlanders’ soccer falls to Westwood in sectional tourney

West Milford. The girls’ high school soccer team fell in the sectional quarterfinals to Westwood last week, 3-1.

    The West Milford High School girls’ soccer team lost to Westwood last Thursday in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 Tournament.

    The final score was 3-1.

    The Lady Highlanders entered the tournament as the sixth seed, while Westwood entered as the third.

    West Milford was shut out through the first period of Thursday’s match, but goalie Gabrielle Soreco allowed just one goal, making the score 1-0 at the break.

    Senior Sera Agostinelli was then able to score in the second period, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals added two more goals of their own in the period for the 3-1 win.

    Soreco finished with eight saves.

    Going into the quarterfinals, the Lady Highlanders were coming off of a big shutout win over Vernon in the first round of the tournament.

    With the loss, West Milford finishes the 2019 season with an impressive record of 11-5-2.
