Slow down

Editor's note: Annette Muller of Warwick sent in the following: My daughter Ciara Muller has been quarantined in my bedroom since 3/22 upon returning from a school internship in Chile. With everything going on in the world today with the coronavirus she needed to put this craziness into words. I thought it was so beautiful and insightful. Maybe you could share with readers.

What is this strange time we are in?

It's like the world is going crazy and it's coming to an end.

We all don't know what will come next.

So here we are just waiting to feel the effects

What will come out of this pain we are all about to endure?

Will it be heartbreak, madness or even a cure?

Or maybe we should take time to soak up the silence.

Get away from all the noise.

And for a second, forget all the violence.

Yeah, we weren't made to sit in the comfort of our own home,

Day after day spending time all alone.

We were meant to explore, run around, and play in the trees,

What we did when we were children and had no one to please.

Maybe we should go back to those days when time stood still.

No place to be or need to seek for a thrill.

Where life slows down and you can finally breathe.

Lay down in the grass, tell me what do you see?

Is it branches that create the most perfect design?

Or a flock of birds heading north for the sake of springtime?

May it be the clear blue skies with not a cloud left in sight?

Or shimmering specks that caress you like a blanket in the night.

I know it is scary to not know what is next.

Fearing life in a constant state of unrest.

But isn't it beautiful, we can finally see

There is so much more to life when we slow down and just be.
