Netcong -The Growing Stage - The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey will open its performance of “A Midnight Cry” on Friday, Jan. 19. The show will run through February 11 on Fridays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for children and senior citizens; season and group rate tickets are also available. “A Midnight Cry” is a moving historical drama based on the true story of a young slave’s journey through the Underground Railroad to freedom. Freedom is a word whispered in the plantation fields by day and in the slave cabins at night. Stories of a railroad helping slaves cross to free states in the North seem too good to be true to young Lida Anderson. But, with the help of a slave, Lida risks everything to be free. Leaving behind her family, friends, and the only life she knows, she embarks on the dangerous journey out of slavery via the Underground Railroad. Through soulful music and poignant storytelling, “A Midnight Cry” brings to life a vital part of our nation’s history for young people. The Growing Stage Theatre is the only professional member theatre of the Actor’s Equity Association in New Jersey, with its own theatre that is solely dedicated to young people and their families.
