Sugar Loaf, N.Y. Remember Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship? Experience the music again when Kings Theatre Company presents Starship, starring Mickey Thomas, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m. Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled Starship through the decades of the 80’s and 90’s, establishing Thomas as one of rock music’s most recognizable stars. He made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the mega-hit “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with the Elvin Bishop band. In 1979, Mickey’s joined Jefferson Starship as lead vocalist, after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Backed by the power of his vocals, Jefferson Starship immediately scored a #1 hit with “Jane.” With its new sound and vocals, the group was renamed Starship and continued to record an amazing string of hits including “No Way Out,” “We Built This City,” “Sara,” and an Oscar nomination for the #1 hit “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now” from the movie “Mannequin.” Other top hits included “Find Your Way Back,” “Stranger,” “Laying It On The Line,” and “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over” which became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987. Moreover, every Starship album released since 1979 has gone gold, platinum, or multi-platinum. Thomas has revamped his band and the show now features an expanded set list that includes the multi-platinum hits of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship. The expanded band and the addition of the beautiful, powerful female vocalist, Stephanie Calvert, delivers a show that includes all the hit songs and classics. Tickets to this incredible show are $45/$40 for adults and $30 for youth (18 years and younger) and can be purchased by calling the Lycian Centre Box Office at 845-469-2287 Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m..
