Newton — Children aged three to eight are invited to the Annual Fun Fair on Saturday, March 31 at Sussex County Community College. Sponsored by the Sussex County Association for the Education of Young Children and Sussex County Community College Early Childhood Program, the Fun Fair will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the college’s D Building galleria and cafeteria. There is an admission fee of $3 per child or $5 per family, which includes materials. The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association, with over 100,000 members and a network of nearly 450 local, state, and regional affiliates. The purpose of The Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The week provides opportunities for all of us to recognize the importance of the early years, and to work together to build better futures for all children. The National Association for the Education of Young Children is the largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of programs for children from birth through age eight. Founded in 1926, the organization now has nearly 100,000 members, and a national network of over 300 local, state and regional affiliates. Children will have the opportunity to take part in over 15 different hands-on activities at booths set up by area preschools and SCCC’s Early Childhood classes. SCCC Health and Nutrition classes will be presenting a fruit tasting, which will include some rare fruits the children may have never tried. There will also be a book fair.
