Louis Thomas Kulsar, 82 years old, died peacefully at home on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018. Born to Louis R. and Myrtle Kulsar in Franklin, N.J., he has been a lifelong resident of Franklin.
Louis graduate from Franklin High School in 1953 and then worked at Plastoid Corp. He then attended and graduated from the New Jersey Police Academy, Sea Girt, NJ in 1968 and became employed by the Franklin Police Department as a Patrolman on a 3-man force. One of his first calls, he entered a burning apartment on Main Street to rescue a mother and son and was cited for his heroism by the New Jersey Assembly. In 1974 the Borough Council established the first detective bureau with Louis in charge. He rose through the ranks retiring in 1993 as Acting Chief after 26 years of service. He was a member of the fraternal order of Police and a Exempt member of the Franklin Fire Department. He served on the Franklin Town Council for one term and the Franklin and Wallkill Valley Boards of Educations for over 10 years. He enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He was the 2014 Franklin Senior Citizen of the Year.
Louis is predeceased by a sister, Jane Francke(2005) and is the beloved husband for 62 years of Geraldine F. Kulsar(nee Yankers) of Franklin, NJ. Devoted father of L. Thomas Kulsar and his wife, Jo Ann of Franklin, NJ, Sandra Greene of Stafford, VA, Sharon Novak and her husband, Joseph of Center Harbor, NH and John Kulsar and his wife, Sara of Denver, CO. Loving grandfather of Crystal, Teresa, Morgan, Steven, Kylee, Daniel, Michael, Patrick, Kristi, Nicholas, Tracie, Katie, Niobi, Ezra and Apollo. Cherished by 11 great grandchildren. Dear brother of William Kulsar and his wife, Nancy of Sparta, NJ. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home Friday, January 26, 2018 at 9 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Franklin, NJ at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Hardyston Twp., NJ.
