WEST MILFORD — Imagine moving away, but only being allowed to pack up your life into one small backpack. Could you do it? This is what Marion Lazan was forced to do as a young Jewish child growing up in Nazi Germany. Lazan is the co-author of “Four Perfect Pebbles — A Holocaust Story.” Westbrook School’s fifth and sixth graders recently had the opportunity to hear Lazan’s story about her life in Germany before the Nazi occupation, her life during the concentration camps, the “four perfect pebbles,” her liberation and her life after emigrating to the U.S. Her story is one of courage, determination, faith and hope. She spoke openly and candidly to the students and answered their questions. She asked them to pass on her story as they are the last generation to hear firsthand accounts of these horrors. She ended by telling the students to love, respect and tolerate one another in order to live in a peaceful world.
