Faire play

Performers interact with patrons as they wind through an all-day story line that includes Robin Hood, Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Parma and a host of others. (Yes, it’s true that the queen and Robin Hood are historically separated by several centuries, thus the Faire’s tagline — “Where fantasy rules”). There’s even a couple of jousts. In addition, there are musical, magical, daredevil and comedy performances. Vendors sell everything from clothing to tarot readings, and the food ranges from mead and turkey legs to champaign and chocolate covered strawberries. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the New York Renaissance Faire. It is open weekends until the end of September. (Photos by Mike Bousquet)
