Great weather and many happy dogs

WEST MILFORD — Sunday, October 21 was a picture perfect day in the park; the sun was bright and shinning and the fall foliage was majestic. The happy dogs and their owners came not only to enjoy the day, but to support the shelter. For some it is an annual event, for others it was a brand new experience. Some came with one dog, some came with more. Some came alone with their dogs and some made it a family event. There were dogs of every size, breed and age. Every dog who came to the walk received a bandanna and a goodie bag. The goodie bag items were donated by ShopRite Supermarkets. The dogs who were adopted or rescued wore a special green ribbon attached to their collars and their owners were also given a ribbon to wear. The ribbons were designed by Ardeth Wurdemann and her daughter, Roberta. Ardeth attached all the ribbons and soon knew the names and stories of all the dogs. The Walk-A-Dog-Athon is the shelter’s largest fundraising event and all the donations raised help to support and care for the over 1,000 homeless animals the shelter’s volunteers care for annually. Every penny will directly benefit the animals since the shelter is completely maintained and managed by volunteers. The participants who raised the most amount of money won prizes that had been donated for that purpose. The winners were: Grand Prize: $500 n James Warden (who donated his prize back to the shelter). 1st Prize: $400 Ortolani Jewelers gift certificate: Cyndi and Don Babula. 2nd Prize: $300 ShopRite Supermarkets gift certificate: Samantha Grieves. 3rd Prize: Two tickets for the PaperMill Playhouse: Roberta Wurdemann.
