West Milford — Local resident Marie Rem was recently honored by Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey for her role in spearheading fundraising for the agency’s annual Wheelin’-n’-Walkin’ Challenge. Marie is a teacher at the agency’s Horizon School in Livingston, which serves students with multiple disabilities. Marie’s class raised more than $12,000 to help the school raise in excess of $28,000 overall. She was also one of the key organizers of the event. The Wheelin’-n’-Walkin’ Challenge was developed four years ago to offer staff as well as students and their families the opportunity to help raise funds for the school. The event soon spread to the agency’s Horizon High School (also in Livingston) and this year to its three Adult Training Centers in Wayne, East Orange and Irvington. Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey serves more than 1,000 families each year through a variety of programs. In addition to Horizon School, Horizon High School and its three adult training centers, the programs include: an early intervention program that serves more than 300 infants directly in their homes; three group homes that provide residents with around-the-clock care; a community therapy program that serves almost 200 students in 33 public schools; and a specialized 24-unit apartment complex.
