WEST MILFORD — The grand opening of a new gas station in town took place last week with promises of lower prices. The Lukoil station on Union Valley Road, just a few hundred yards beyond the intersection with Macopin Road, sees the return of the gas pumps to the location of a the former Mobil station. Gas prices are rarely out of the news and drivers are often searching for the station with the lowest rates. This addition to the cheap gas hunt may provide some much needed relief to West Milford residents. Owner Veeru Dhilion Natha Singh aims to provide the most competitive gas prices in town. As of Labor Day weekend Singh was as good as his word selling a gallon of regular at $2.49, with premium going for $2.71 a gallon. Diesel prices at the Lukoil were marked at $2.67 thru last weekend. “We want to offer the best and lowest prices we can,” said Singh. Singh’s prices actually place him amongst the lowest in the whole country. According to gasbuddy.com the national average to buy a gallon of regular gasoline last weekend was $2.79. Even by New Jersey standards Singh’s prices are good. The Garden State has the lowest average costs for gas in the nation with $2.51 being the standard price for consumers purchasing a gallon of regular. Neighboring states of Pennsylvania and New York don’t fare so well coming in at 17th and 35th respectively in the list of the least expensive states to buy gas. Singh will provide full service from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days of the week. “People have been very friendly,” said Singh and reports that business has been busy since opening day. Singh said, “West Milford is very beautiful and I am happy to be able to give good prices to the people here.”
