Police report arrests of fatal drug dealer and sex offender

    West Milford police arrested a sex offender and a drug dealer whose sales led to fatalities, as described in the West Milford Police Department February report:

    SEARCH WARRANT EXECUTION On Tuesday February 1, 2022

    West Milford Police Detectives and members of the West Milford Police Special Operations Unit assisted NYPD and NJ and NY DEA Field Offices in the execution of Arrest and Search Warrants at a West Milford address in connection to multiple fatal overdose deaths and narcotics distribution. West Milford Detectives were contacted in mid-2021 by NYPD Detectives investigating several overdose deaths involving fentanyl laced cocaine. West Milford Detectives initiated surveillance activities and provided actionable intelligence on the suspect in order to assist NYPD and NJ and NY DEA Field Offices, leading up to and including the execution of the warrants.

    Billy Ortega, 36 of West Milford formerly of New York was arrested and taken into custody by the DEA transported to New York and charged federally.


    On February 8, 2022 at 12:55 PM Officer Jordan Primavera was traveling north on Macopin Road when he observed a vehicle fail to stop at the intersection of Maple Road almost causing a motor vehicle crash. Officer Primavera conducted a motor vehicle stop of the white Infinity Q50 and made contact with the driver and lone occupant Christopher Kirby, 50 of Kentucky. Upon checking Kirby’s credentials it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant out of Campbell County Kentucky on 1st degree charges of exposure to juveniles with full extradition. The warrant was confirmed and Kirby was arrested and transported to Passaic County Jail on Fugitive of Justice charges.

    Multiple arrests of men driving while intoxicated were also in the report including one in a car accident,
