West Milford fire companies fight structure fire at Stockholm residence

STOCKHOLM. The fire reportedly started in the basement and worked its way up to the first floor, injuring one firefighter in the process.

On July 10, 2022, at 10:46 a.m. the West Milford Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 16 Elias Lane, in Stockholm, after multiple 911 calls came in reporting the fire. The first units on the scene confirmed that there was a working fire in the basement of the house.

According to a press release issued by the West Milford Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was seen quickly extending up the walls into the first floor. Fire companies were able to contain the fire to the front part of the house, and it was declared under control in about an hour.

The home sustained heat and smoke damage and is presently uninhabitable, per the press release. Also, one firefighter sustained a minor injury. West Milford fire companies 2, 1, 4, and 6 operated on scene along with tankers from Hardyston and Highland Lakes. West Milford First Aid was on scene as well, along with Atlantic Health Care EMS.

The fire is presently under investigation by the Jefferson Township and West Milford Township fire marshals.
