Augusta — Spring was busting out all over this weekend at the eleventh Annual Springfest and Garden Show at the Sussex County Fair Grounds in Augusta. Known as “the garden lover’s flower show” Springfest, with 12 garden exhibits, ten educational exhibits and more than 50 commercial exhibitors had something to offer every visitor who entered the 30,000-foot, color-drenched conservatory. “This show is unique among garden shows, since it is not-for-profit with proceeds dedicated to scholarships and agricultural education,” said, Springfest President David H. Wright. “It is produced by the non-profit Agricultural Division/Sussex County Farm & Horse Show as well as dedicated volunteers and generous supporters who share a passion for gardening.” In addition to the eye-catching garden displays, Springfest hosted its second annual Window Box Competition, which was judged by the nationally renowned garden writer Ken Druse. This year’s winner was North Warren Garden Club with an entry titled ‘Scent’sational Spring Splash. Over the course of the four-day event there was a series of 12 lectures on topics ranging from Butterfly Gardens to Front Yard Design Tips. Last year, Springfest attracted more than 8,000 visitors and there was every indication that this year’s numbers were right up there if not better than that. “I would say that this has been a record show, people have been delighted with the burst of spring that they experience here and we have tried to make our display interactive and a lot of fun,” said Chris Anderson of Mountain Pine Nursery and Garden of Warwick.
