Bieri, Nolan and Warden best represent the taxpayers' interests

To the editor: I am voting for Bettina Bieri, James Warden and Bob Nolan for one simple reason. They have shown that they will represent the interests of us, the West Milford taxpayers. Warden and Nolan have proven their commitment to holding the line on taxes, throughout the town’s budgeting process and most notably, by keeping tax disasters like the Eagle Ridge and Valley Ridge housing developments out of our town. By now, most homeowners are aware that condos and townhouses are not like commercial development. They cause our taxes to skyrocket by overwhelming our school, police, fire, ambulance and road infrastructures. Warden and Nolan fought many uphill battles in the interests of homeowners during their terms. Through sheer persistence and courage, they managed to get the council majority to step up, do the right thing and back their efforts to fight Eagle Ridge and Valley Ridge in earnest. If Warden and Nolan had not been our council representatives these past years, I feel certain that one or both of these developments would have been built. And had they been built, we would be paying a high price, in the form of higher taxes, well failures, traffic problems, and pollution to our local lakes and air. By electing Warden and Nolan last time, voters put in place two dedicated councilmen who stood up for the taxpayers again and again. If taxes and a clean environment are important to you, I urge you to come to the polls and re-elect James Warden and Bob Nolan. Mayoral candidate Bettina Bieri has my support because she has the demonstrated financial skills, planning board experience and clear sense of fiduciary responsibility to fight tax increases. Her approach to this campaign has been straightforward, professional and free from any gimmicks or personal attacks on her opponents. Bieri is by trade a tax accountant, a CPA, and is also a dedicated volunteer in our town. As the daughter of European immigrants, Bieri grew up with little money but quickly became successful through hard work and by living within her means. At a time when nearly everyone, including our federal government, is drowning in debt, Bettina Bieri is exactly the kind of person I want looking out for the taxpayers’ interests as our next mayor. Please join me in electing Bettina Bieri for mayor, and in re-electing councilmen Bob Nolan and James Warden. Don Weise West Milford
