Supporting the GOP

To the editor: America. What a country. How many people throughout this world have an opportunity to select their leaders? Not too many I dare say. Here in West Milford we have the opportunity to select one third of our town council each year. And this year, we have the opportunity to also choose our mayor. This is only the second time that the mayor is chosen by the people in three decades. I am voting for Bill Gervens for the position of mayor. Bill has been a member of our council in the past, serving as the council president for each of the three years he served on the council. However, political experience isn’t the only thing that Bill brings to the table. As a business owner, he knows how to run a business. He understands the need to control wasteful spending and to be sure that all that he accomplishes is done in a way that reflects his eye for detail and craftsmanship. Bill is also a true family man, a man who believes and practices traditional family values. Bill brings it all to the table for a better West Milford. I will also be voting for Marilyn Lichtenberg and Dan Jurkovic for council. Most people know Marilyn. She is fondly known as Miss Volunteer. But even more important, Marilyn is known for getting things done. Her experience in government here in West Milford goes without question. Marilyn understands the workings of town hall because she has been there. I also know that Marilyn will work hard to bring tax stabilization concepts through increased revenue to the table. Lets face it, as a business woman, Marilyn knows how to control waste and get the most bang for the buck. I have worked with Dan Jurkovic for about ten years on the zoning board of adjustment, where he serves as vice chairman. I have always found that Dan listens, yes listens, to people. He thinks matters over and then makes wise decisions. As an attorney certified in elder care matters, Dan, above all others, has a tremendous knowledge and understanding of the needs of our seniors. As a business man, Dan also knows how to control waste and find innovative ways to increase revenue for our town. One such idea that he researched is a method to increase the assessment on watershed land. (The two Democrats said that the citizens of Newark could not afford to pay higher West Milford taxes. After all, you — to their way of thinking — have an unlimited supply of money). If you have questions, these fine people will be available to meet with you every Monday night at the Republican Headquarters located across the street from Radio Shack. Yes, I will be voting for Bill Gervens, Marilyn Lichtenberg and Dan Jurkovic on November 6. I am asking you to do the same. Arthur T. McQuaid West Milford
