‘This Republican war on democracy must be opposed and defeated’

As a lifelong Democrat it saddens me to witness the depths to which the Republican party has fallen in its blind loyalty to Donald Trump.

I remember the Eisenhower, Reagan, Bush and even the Nixon administrations being mostly comprised of people of integrity, intelligence and an understanding of our Constitution and democratic ideals.

I may have disagreed with many of their policies, but I respected their knowledge and dedication to public service

Unfortunately, the Republican party is now led by people of low integrity and limited dedication to the ideals of our great country. The leaders of the party such as Kevin McCarthy, Mitch McConnell, Steve Scalise with many other sycophants still spout the “Big Lie” that the election was stolen and accompanied by nut jobs such as Matt Gaetz, Marjory Taylor Green, Lauren Bobert and Ron Johnson have placed our democratic processes are under attack.

White supremacy reigns supreme in their ideology.

Attempts are being made to deny the vote to minority populations.

Attacks on the right to protest are under way which, in some states, will allow people in vehicles to run protesters over.

Denying LGTBQ individuals human dignity and a place in our society is espoused by these alleged patriots.

The Republican party is falling into the abyss which may destroy the party.

The most violent protest our nation witnessed in the last 100 years occurred at the encouragement of our then -resident, Donald Trump, many members of congress, and included what today makes up the ideological base of the Republican party, angry bigots who wish our country was governed by Jim Crow laws and the ability of the police to act with impunity against people of color and other marginalized populations.

Donald Trump has poisoned the Republican party with his Neo-fascist tendencies which have taken root in the minds of his many supporters. These folks have been fooled into following ignorant and divisive policies.

Fortunately, we are now governed by an administration headed by men and women of integrity who harbor a belief that our nation is made up of all the people who live here no matter their color or creed. President Biden is a refreshing change from that petulant man-child Donald Trump. He encourages us to all participate and make America be, once again, the model of democracy to which all nations can aspire to reach.

We must not allow the Republican party to subvert those ideals and hinder those goals. This Republican war on democracy must be opposed and defeated.
