Newton — In response to a call from United for Peace and Justice and American Friends Service Committee, peace vigils will be held across the nation on the day following the announcement of the 3,000th U.S. soldier’s death in Iraq. The overall theme is “Not One More Death, Not One More Dollar.” The purpose of the vigils is to mourn all the lives lost in this war and to help focus demands for a rapid and strategic exit from Iraq on our elected representatives in Congress. The Northwest N.J. Peace Fellowship will hold a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. at the Newton Square, in Newton, on the day after the grim milestone is announced. The names of the 51 fallen soldiers from N.J. will be read. “We invite everyone to join us at this silent candlelight vigil to mourn all the lives lost, those of 3,000 U.S. troops and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and to call for the troops to come home now,” said Tom Bias, president of the Northwest N.J. Peace Fellowship.
