Newton —The Green Sanctuary Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Sussex County invites the public to attend a free showing of “An Inconvenient Truth,” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. To quote from the film, “Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb. If the vast majority of the world’s scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced.” From director Davis Guggenheim comes the Sundance Film Festival hit that offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man’s fervent crusade to expose the myths and misconceptions surrounding the deadly progress of global warming. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who has re-set the course of his life, to focus on an all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable destruction. Film critic Roger Ebert had this to say about the film: “In 39 years I have never written these words in a movie review, but here they are: you owe it to yourself to see this movie. If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you did not.” The showing has been made possible by “Interfaith Power and Light,” a non-partisan ministry whose goal, through showings at houses of worship throughout the United States, is to educate people of faith about the issue of global warming. It is their belief that faith communities must lead by example to help save the earth - and our children’s future - from the impacts of global warming. The film will be followed by an audience discussion. The Fellowship is located at One West Nelson Street in Newton.
