Apple Blossom time for Red Molly

WARWICK —Two bands — Red Molly and Awry — will be coming to Warwick on Saturday, May 19, as part of the Apple Blossom Music Festival, at the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery. Awry’s name sounds nothing like the angelic voice of a small town ‘jerzeygoil’ and the smooth-stringed serenity of a flannel-bearing runaway. This original, alt-country, indie band had this Jersey angel, or tattooed heart breaker, delivered through an answered e-mail ad. Her name is Melissa Murray. Seth Fleishman plays guitar and vocals and may even wear flannel for a touch of bluegrass. But this kickin’ band delivers lots more: classic blends of American sounds, rockin’ blues, jammin’ country, smooth and sultry rock and roll with a “touch” of bluegrass, for flavor. Jeremy Steven will be on fiddle and banjo, Elliot Rubinich on drums, and Pistol Pete Lister on bass. On the outdoor stage the same day is Red Molly, singing with delightful harmonies, not overly slick vocals. Instead, it’s music from the heart sung by Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner, and Carolann Solebello. “It’s true folk music that comes from the right place. They take me back to a purer time when people sang for one another just because of the love of music. And they pack some power. It warms the soul,” says Frank Matheis, of WKSE FM, Sharon, Ct. Not only has the Winery long recognized their talent, but after this gig, they are off to perform at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Other acts included in the festival are Staight Drive, Marty Koppel, The Anarchist Orchestra, The Holmgren Brothers, Master and Margarita, Stacey Earle and Marc Stuart, McMule, and Kevin and Kate McKrell. Advance tickets are $10. At the gate, $12. Kids under 5 get in free. For more information, visit www.wvwinery.com or call 858-258-4858.
