Area Chinese to ring in the year of the pig

Central Valley — On the Chinese calendar, 2007 is Lunar Year 4705. On the Western calendar, the start of the Chinese New Year, the year of the pig, falls on Feb. 18. The Orange County Chinese Association and Chinese School will present a culturally vibrant Chinese New Year’s celebration at Central Valley Elemental School at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. In the event of inclement weather, the back-up date will be Feb. 17. Dr. Dong Liu, the president of the non-profit OCCA, said: “Our mission is to provide cultural, educational, and other instrumental programs to promote the cultural heritage and enhance the quality of life in our community. “This is being carried out through OCCA’s community activity programs and by its subsidiary, the Orange County Chinese School. OCCA belongs to everyone, to its members and friends, and to those who love Chinese culture and are interested in learning Chinese.”
