Newton - Karen Ann Quinlan Center of Hope Hospice and the Joseph P. Quinlan Bereavement Center are offering art therapy for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. According to Diana Sebzda, director of bereavement and Lorri Opitz, bereavement counselor, art therapy focuses on meeting the individualized needs of grieving children by engaging them in an assortment of creative activities. In addition, the group allows children to come together with others who have also experienced a loss. The two counselors have tailored the program to assure children feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their fears about death. Art therapy sessions are held on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., March 3, through March 24, at Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, 99 Sparta Ave, Newton, N.J. Registration is necessary and enrollment is limited. There is a $50 fee due upon registration to cover the cost of materials and supplies. Call Diana Sebzda or Lori Opitz at 973-383-0115 to register or for more information about this program or about bereavement services for the community.
