NEWTON Business of Art Sussex, will hold its first monthly meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan, 10. Founded by local artists Sean Holzli, Valerie Ellen Magro and Jennie Traill Schaeffer, is an informal group open to visual artists not only from within Sussex County, but from as far as people are willing to travel. The group is intended to bring artists together, professionals or those wanting to become a professional, who are committed to learn about and nurture the business end of their work through discussions, presentations, and networking with other artists. The founders hope to explore topics such as legal and accounting questions, free promotion, Web sites, surefire sales ideas and resources for artists. The group hopes to develop the meetings’ themes based on the interests and needs of its members. Join Business of Art for its first meeting at the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council’s 14 Moran St. office, in Newton. It will be informal and informational, with a portion of the meeting devoted to understanding the interests of the artists and a discussion around the three must-haves as a professional artist: the bio, statement, and resume. Business of Art Sussex wants everyone to feel at home, so bring a favorite coffee mug great coffee and conversation, as well as any current bios, statements and resumes. Or, if you have not yet developed these essential documents, attend the meeting on Jan. 10th to learn how. The group plans to meet the second Wednesday of every month.
