Greenwood Lake — “Arts at the Lake,” the not-for-profit arts and culture organization in Greenwood Lake that currently produces the Summer Concert Series, will expand its offerings with the creation of a new theatre company, “Theatre at the Lake.” This new endeavor will be led by “Arts at the Lake” trustee and stage director, Dr. Emilie A. Cozzi. Cozzi has served as president, provost and professor of theatre at CUNY’s NYC College of Technology where she founded the award-winning Theatreworks performance troupe and the Entertainment Technology Program. She also directed Off-Broadway Equity and non-Equity plays and musicals with the Riverside Theatre and Workshop and other groups. “Theatre at the Lake” will specialize in outdoor presentations of Shakespeare, Moliere and classical farces in the commedia dell’arte style on the concert stage at Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park. Later, it will expand its offerings to indoor performances of plays and musical revues in the fall and winter seasons. Drawing on the talent of the local population, Cozzi envisions “Theatre at the Lake” as an intergenerational troupe whose productions will appeal to audiences of all ages. Because of her added experience with theatre technology, she also sees “Theatre at the Lake” as a place where residents can showcase or further develop their skills in the areas of scene design and construction, lighting and sound, costuming, stage makeup and promotion. Village trustee and “Arts at the Lake” founder, Barbara Moore views “Theatre at the Lake” as a venture that is long overdue. “Greenwood Lake has a history as home and haven for artists and performers,” she said. “‘Theatre at the Lake,’ along with future programs in music and fine arts, will feature the work of these artists and technicians as well as providing a much-needed creative outlet for our young people. ‘Theatre at the Lake’ will also stimulate economic development in our village business district as it draws audiences from the surrounding areas throughout the year.” The first performance of “Theatre at the Lake” is targeted for mid October at Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park. Performers, artists and technicians interested in participating in the project can download applications on the village Web site at www.villageofgreenwoodlake.org.
