Newton - The Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council continued its 2006 season last Saturday, Feb. 4, with a show called “Arts Desire.” The gallery, located on Moran St. in Newton, hosted a reception, which was open to the public and featured local artists’ work in a variety of media and forms, including oil, acrylic, sculpture, collage and photography. “Each month we have a different theme, and the artists interpret it in their own medium,” said Linda Hirsch, art coordinator for the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council. “This month we have work from over 20 artists on display and are delighted with the enthusiastic response from both artists and public alike.” As this month’s theme suggests, the subjects of the works sprang from anything the artists desired, which led to a wide range of pieces. “I came last month, and I am tremendously impressed by just how different this month’s show is,” said Jill Cadorini of Sparta. “It’s really nice to be able to get to see such quality work on a monthly basis.” The arts council has been in existence for 35 years and moved to the building on Moran Stret two years ago. The theme for March’s show will be “Stormy Weather.” All pieces should be submitted by Feb. 27. Shows are open to all, with a charge of $15 to enter a piece of artwork. If a piece of art is sold, the council takes a commission of 25 percent, which is used for ongoing expenses. The gallery hours are: Tuesday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. For more information call 973-383-0027.
