Washington TownshipMary Snyder and the Lehigh Valley Cloggers will perform at noon on Oct. 21, at the Warren County Technical School, as part of the Warren County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Senior Expo. Mary Snyder has had a love for dancing all her life, square dancing three times a week as a teenager and always trying to tap dance. Mary first fell saw and in love with clogging around 1976, but the closest clogging group was 90 minutes away. It was not until 1988 that she traveled to dance with the Rainbow Cloggers and the Blue Ribbon Cloggers of Hillside, New Jersey. In the meantime, she found a book “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Clogging And Never Even Knew You Wanted To Ask,” by Sheila Popwell, and taught herself a few basic steps. When she and another clogger danced a demo at a square dance, they were approached to teach clogging in Bethlehem, Pa. A one-hour clogging class was set up in January of 1990. That was the beginning of the Lehigh Valley Cloggers, who celebrated their 16th anniversary this year. For more information on the Senior Expo, contact the Chamber at 908-835-9200.
