NEWTON - Sussex County Community College will present the New Jersey premier of the musical, Reunion, at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, in the Sussex Bank Theater at the college, located at One College Hill Rd. in Newton. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5.00 for students and seniors, and free for SCCC students. Advance tickets may be purchased from the bursar’s office in B-building at the college. Reunion, written by Jack Krieleison and Ron Holgate, with traditional music arranged by Michael Flaherty, aims to tell the story of the Civil War through the eyes of those who took up the Union cause - an intersection of theatre and history, weaving together songs, visual images and dialogue. The drama uses writings and songs from the time period, and is set on stage in a music hall. The songs, including John Brown’s Body and Darling Nellie Gray, reflect the time when music was a part of the culture and even the battlefield. Dr. Peter Lubrecht directs the production and Annmarie Guenther is the musical director. Student actors play a variety of roles, including Dennis Petrullo as Harry Hawk, the actor; Samantha Reilly as the nurse; Sean Hynda as Lincoln’s beleaguered secretary; Christina Rosario as Cassie, a slave woman; Christopher McLaughlin as Hannibal, a male slave; Mary Greenfeder as the dressmaker; and Adam Sinabart as the soldier. A large cast of students from the college rounds out the active and vocal ensemble. The musical will be presented this summer at the Lincoln Museum in Illinois, and is being considered for a television or movie adaptation. For information, call 973-300-2320, ext. 4279.
