Comfort foods focus of Culinary Workshops

    Byram Township —The Culinary Workshops, presented by ShopRite of Byram, will feature comfort foods and healthy foods for kids, through the month of February. The two-hour, hands-on workshops are held in the store at a specially designed kiosk. The themed adult classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., featuring winter recipes that include: the Festive Football Feast, comprising Italian Sausage and White Bean Stew; Recipe for Romance; Crab Imperial Stuffed Dover Sole; Comfort Food With a Contemporary Flair, including High-Heat Roasted Prime Rib with Porcini Red Wine Jus; and a Hearty German Dinner of Beef Rouleden with Pan Gravy and Herbed Spaetzle. Registration is required at the Customer Service desk. Classes are limited to the first 12 registrants. Classes will be held Mondays, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, 12 and 26, at a cost of $20 per person. Kids, ages 5 to 12, are invited to explore the world of culinary basics and learn nutritional tips and safe handling practices. On Feb. 2, the Healthy Hearts class will feature Love-You-Too Tortelloni, Sweetheart Salad and Be-Mine Mandarin Honey Cups. Children will take an Eskimo Excursion on Feb. 9 and participate in a class that will feature: Deer Track Delights, Speedy Toboggans and Snow Peak Parfaits. The two-hour, hands-on classes will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and cost $20 per child, plus one adult. Each additional child is $10. An adult must accompany each child. In-store registration is required and is limited to the first 12 participants. Chef Thomas O’Brien, a Johnson and Wales University graduate, will teach the Workshops and attendees will savor their efforts following the classes.
