Newton — Aishu Venkataram, a 14-year-old South Indian violinist, with accompanist, will perform ‘Divine Strings’ at Sussex County Community College, on July 5, at 6:45 p.m. The performance will take place on the Connor Green, rain or shine. The evening of music is free and the public is invited to attend, and to bring a blanket or chair. Aishu, born Aishwarya Venkataraman in Northridge, California, grew up surrounded by music and musicians. Born into a family of rich musical ancestry, Aishu began her training in Suzuki violin at the age of two-and-a-half. At age four, she started learning the Carnatic or South Indian style of music under the tutelage of the violin maestro, T. N. Krishnan. While continuing to play South Indian Classical Music, Aishu has most recently begun training at the Berklee College of Music with an emphasis on jazz performance, earning a full scholarship. She carries the unique distinction of being the youngest person accepted into this four-year college at age 13. There are just two “Thursdays on the Green” performances remaining after this one: on July 12, Zydeco-A-Go-Go, and on July 19, Uncle Floyd. “Thursdays on the Green” is supported by sponsors, including: Lakeland Bank, Sussex Bank, James Alexander, and the Newton Rotary.
