Hackettstown - Donaldson’s Greenhouse & Nursery’s 9th annual Perennial Fest will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, at Donaldson’s, located at 178 Airport Rd. in Hackettstown. As always, perennials will be the topic of the day, with many perennial garden displays and seminars planned to educate and inform visitors. “For Perennial Fest, we exclusively create many unique perennial display gardens inside the greenhouse and nursery,” staid Denise Stevenson, sales and marketing manager. “We combine unusual varieties with old favorites to give customers an idea of which plants will work together under a variety of circumstances - in any area of the yard and garden,” she continued. This year’s display gardens have an international theme. Included are a colorful Mediterranean garden, an English herb garden, an Asian-inspired garden and a Persian garden. Other display gardens will include a woodland garden, a pond’s edge garden, and the popular deer-resistant garden. Seminars will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a talk on “Gardening with Annuals and Perennials” given by Michael Montler of Pleasant View Gardens. Montler will explain how to balance annuals and perennials in the garden and create beds that display color, texture and variety throughout the year. Stephanie Cohen, author of The Perennial Gardener’s Design Primer will be this year’s featured guest speaker. Cohen has received numerous awards and has been named “Garden Communicator of the Year” by the American Nursery and Landscape Association. “Stephanie is one of the foremost professionals in her field and we’re very lucky to have her speak at Perennial Fest,” said David Donaldson, owner. Cohen will speaking at 12:15 p.m. Copies of her book can be purchased at the greenhouse before and during Perennial Fest. She will be available after her seminar to sign books. Refreshments will be offered and various prizes will be raffled throughout the day of Perennial Fest. “Mini-Demonstration Stations,” located throughout the greenhouse and grounds, will offer gardening tips, brochures and personal demonstrations of important garden techniques.
