WEST MILFORD — Music at the Mission is proud to present Jay Ungar and Molly Mason in "A Fiddler's Holiday" with special guest Kyle Hancharick on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m.
Acclaimed acoustic musicians, The Jay Ungar and Molly Mason Family Band released their live concert album, A Fiddler’s Holiday, on Nov. 20 on Rounder Records. This concert is a musical celebration of the winter holiday season, a time when families gather round hearth and home to keep their spirits warm and bright.
A Fiddler’s Holiday was video taped at The University Of Mary Washington in historic Fredericksburg, Va. for a PBS special that will air on PBS affiliate television stations during the holiday season. The program was produced and directed by four-time Emmy® Award winner Jim Brown.
Ungar and Mason are best known for “Ashokan Farewell,” the musical centerpiece of the Grammy® Award winning score of The Civil War series, and other frequent collaborations with Ken Burns.
Their music is best described as American roots music. Unger is regarded as one of America’s finest fiddlers. Mason, known as a consummate accompanist, was the bass player in Garrison Keillor’s Powder Milk Biscuit Band. Their musical career has spanned more than 30 years and taken them from square dances and folk clubs to Tanglewood, Madison Square Garden and the White House.
Kyle Hancharick is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Warwick, N.Y. He has been playing music most of his life. His first public performance was at the age of 8 in front of a crowd of about 100 people. He began performing at Music at the Mission's open mic nights when he was 13, and quickly became a favorite. Hancharick opened the show for Jay Ungar and Molly Mason in 2006, receiving standing ovations and was asked by Ungar and Mason to join them on their encore.
Hancharick began performing traditional American folk music, being a fan of artists such as Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
Currently, he is part of Full Armor, a contemporary Christian band. He continues to tour with the band throughout the country in support of their albums. Most recently, he released his debut solo project, titled “EP.” It is available at Indieheaven.com.
