WAYNE — Hundreds of people are expected to join the Friendship Circle Walk 2013 on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013. The event is sponsored by the Friendship Circle of Passaic County, a non-profit organization that provides social opportunities for those with special needs and their families with volunteer friends.
The wheelchair-accessible walk consists of a walk around the Wayne Valley High School Track, 551 Valley Road, in Wayne. Registration/check-in starts at 1 p.m. with the opening ceremony and walk beginning at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to stay for fun activities afterwards, including a barbecue, Friends Festival, family event and much more.
Pre-registration for the walk is free at www.friendswalk4friends.com by Oct. 17. Every pre-registered walker will receive a Friends Walk 4 Friends T-shirt. On-site registration is $18 a person and $25 a family.
The Friendship Circle benefits everyone involved and everyone wins: those with special-needs, their families, the volunteers, the staff members and the considerate supporters. All are part of a seamless circle of giving and sharing.
The Friendship Circle is a non-profit organization that addresses the challenges facing the families of children with special needs in a novel and innovative way. It begins with the pairing of local teenagers with children for weekly "Friends at Home" visits, but hardly ends there. Through a full range of activities and events, the Friendship Circle creates its own special environment of friendship and love.
The Friendship Circle impacts thousands of people annually. Last year, Friendship Circle volunteers provided over 12,000 hours of friendship to those with disabilities and their families.
