Newton - Global warming has been on everyone’s minds since the film “An Inconvenient Truth” won an Academy Award. A panel of professionals will bring the topic to Sussex County Community College on Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. to examine policies and proposals aimed at alleviating the short- and long-term consequences of the increases of atmospheric greenhouse gases. Frank Lombardo, President of Weather Works, will discuss the first position: Global warming is a reality; it will restructure the physical and social environment. Lombardo has 20 years experience in meteorology. He has provided forensic testimony and reconstructed weather conditions for investigations. Lombardo is designated a certified consulting meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society. Thomas M. Else, Chief Meteorologist - Operations Manager of Weather Works, will take the second position: The data on global warming is not conclusive; a panicked response is premature. Else has acquired an in depth knowledge of both the science of meteorology and associated mathematics and he provides accurate weather forecasts, post storm summaries, certified weather reports, storm alerts, radio weather broadcasts and much more. He has been a member of the American Meteorological Society since his college years. Sean Rowland, Meteorologist - Director of Educational Services of Weather Works, takest the third position: Global warming is an issue about which we need to remain vigilant; an area of study and concern, but not conclusion. While at Weather Works, Rowland’s tasks include forecasting, post storm summaries, storm alerts and past weather reports. He also is involved in many educational aspects of the company. Some of the present and future work in this area involves our Snow Spotter Network, monthly newsletter and school assembly series. Rowland is a member of the American Meteorological Society. After the panelists have presented the different views, there will be a lively discussion on the topic moderated by Tony Selimo, broadcaster, communications consultant, and Director of Media Services at SCCC. There is no cost to attend the program and the community is encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served. For more information please call 973-300-2120.
