Byram - The Byram Parks and Recreation Dept. is hosting a number of family activities during this holiday season. Children may write letters to Santa in care of the parks and recreation department, 10 Mansfield Dr., Stanhope, N.J. 07874. Time permitting, Santa will answer back with a personal letter. The Youth Guidance Council was scheduled to host a Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Byram Civic Center on Lackawanna Dr., featuring a free lunch with Santa, and a gift for each child. Holiday music was to be provided by members of the Palisades Park Fire Dept. The drive-by tour route for the Byram “Holiday Lights Tour” will be available beginning Dec. 15. Maps will be provided, if needed. The winning light display will be awarded at the recreation commission Christmas party at 8 p.m. on Dec. 21. Santa will be on hand from dawn to dusk on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, traveling around town on a fire truck, courtesy of the Byram Fire Dept. The jolly old elf will hand out goodies along the way. The parks and recreation department will host a “Holiday Lights Tour and Dinner” trip to NYC on Tuesday, Dec. 27. Cost is $62 per person and includes bus transportation, tour and dinner. The bus leaves the Byram Municipal Building at 2:45 p.m. for a narrated tour of Rockefeller Center, the holiday window displays, the Lincoln Center Christmas tree and other sights. The tour will be followed by a full-course dinner in Little Italy, and visits to Ferraro’s Bakery and the Winter Garden Atrium. The bus returns at 10 p.m. On Thursday, Dec. 29, the department will sponsor a “Christmas Family Break Trip” to Big Boulder in the Pocono Mountains for a day of snow-tubing. Cost is $20 per person. The bus leaves the Byram Township Municipal Building at 10 a.m. and returns at 7 p.m. Teens 14-17 may come on their own with a buddy, providing medical forms and permission slips have been filled out in advance. Teens will be required to check in with chaperones at regular intervals throughout the day. Parents are responsible for younger children.
