Hospice presents free financial planning seminars

    Lafayette - Two local experts in the fields of finance and law will present financial planning seminars this month for area residents. The free sessions are sponsored by Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, and will be held from 5 p.m to 6:30 p.m. on June 13 and June 27 at the Lafayette House, second floor meeting room, Old Lafayette Village. Light refreshments will be served, and participants will receive a free copy of the “Plan & Prosper” CD. Dr. Barbara O’Neill will present “Financial Planning for the Second Half of Your Life” on Tuesday, June 13. She will focus on topics including tax planning strategies, investment decisions, tax deferred plans, reducing financial risks, estate planning basics and leaving a legacy. O’Neill, a resident of Andover, is a full professor and financial management specialist at Rutgers University, a certified financial planner, and a prolific writer who has authored five financial planning books, including Saving on a Shoestring and Investing on a Shoestring. She has taught almost 1,500 classes and spoken to more than 23,000 adult learners since 1978. “Laws Affecting Seniors” will be held on Tuesday, June 27. Presenter Robert Romano, Esq., will speak about preserving assets, powers of attorney, planning for illness, and living wills and advanced directives. Romano is a partner with the law firm of Andora & Romano, L.L.C, in Paramus. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Elder Law Section of the N.J. Bar Association. He is also a member of the Ethics Committee for Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice. He provides classes to the general public on patient’s rights and issues concerning the elderly and disabled through local hospitals and health care facilities.
