WEST MILFORD — We hear the sounds of Christmas all around us. The songs of Christmas play overhead as we shop. But it is easy to forget what Christmas is all about. Come to West Milford Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and hear the familiar Christmas carols in a new way, the jazz way.
These jazz services have become a tradition, as we hear the familiar tunes with different rhythms. It is a great evening of music and worship.
Jazz incorporates the rhythms that live in our soul; it has the power to heal and inspire, as it captures our hope. In these difficult times we need the hope and joy that jazz can bring to the season. You will even hear “Some Day my Prince will Come” in the style of David Brubeck.
Listen to local Jazz musicians as they share their talents. West Milford is fortunate to have some very talented jazz musicians who live in the community. Come hear local artists, including Bob Magnuson, who has played saxophone on the sound tracks of hundreds of records and commercials, and played on Broadway; Eric Goletz, who has appeared with Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Jon Faddis, Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli and Bernadette Peters; Mark Manchello, known for his smooth jazz world, he started his career by touring with Luther Vandross. All are welcome, this program is open to the public. So come, be inspired and celebrate the holidays in a different way.
There will be a free will donation to cover the cost of the musicians and to help with relief for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. When the hurricane hit there was a lot of damage throughout New Jersey. Locally, people pulled together and supported each other, sharing power, water and resources. But there are many in New Jersey who are still living with the destruction caused by the storm.
