WEST MILFORD — We hear the sounds of Christmas all around us, even the songs of Christmas playing overhead as we shop. But it is easy to forget what Christmas is all about. Come to West Milford Presbyterian Church on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and hear the familiar Christmas carols in a new way. Listen to local jazz musicians as they share their talents. This is an evening service of music and worship.
These jazz services have become a tradition, as we hear the familiar tunes with different rhythms. It is a great evening of music not to be missed. Jazz incorporates the rhythms that live in our soul, it has the power to heal and inspire, as it captures our hope. In these difficult times we need the hope and joy that jazz can bring to the season.
West Milford is fortunate to have some very talented jazz musicians who live in the community. Come hear local artists, including Bob Magnuson, who has played saxophone on the sound tracks of hundreds of records and commercials and played on Broadway; Eric Goletz, who has appeared with Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Jon Faddis, Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli and Bernadette Peters; Mitch Schecter, who has performed in a variety of venues, from Europe to Florida and throughout New Jersey, and Kent Smith, who played with the Rolling Stones.
All are welcome. This program is open to the public. Come, be inspired and celebrate the holidays in a different way.
There will be a free will donation to cover the cost of the musicians and to help with Stop Hunger Now. In January, youth from West Milford Presbyterian Church will be participating in a packing event to pack 10,000 meals for people in need. For more information, call the church office at 973-728-3081.
