Newton - Richard Slayton, a graduate of Jefferson Township High School and former student at Sussex County Community College, will present a poetry reading and lecture at the college at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Sussex Bank Theater. Slayton finished his undergraduate work in Vermont before traveling the country working a number of diverse jobs. He eventually settled down again in New Jersey to teach English Literature at Jefferson High School. He is promoting his first book of poetry titled, “Watching, Listening, and Waiting,” in a series of readings and lectures throughout the Northeast.
