Lafayette Antique Center showcase contemporary art

    Lafayette - The Lafayette Mill Antiwue Center will present, ”People, Places and Things,” an eclectic exhibit of original art work, including large and small paintings, sculpture, photography, mixed media and found object constructions, from June 11 through Aug. 5. The 1800 square foot gallery will be filled with two and three dimensional pieces in a variety of media. Artist James Gwynne will show his large voluptuous canvases while painter and poet Keith Smith will exhibit smaller, intimate work. Also featured will be watercolors and drawings by W. Carl Burger and found object sculpture by his student, Tony Lordi. Ron DeNitto, period abstract expressionist from Woodstock, N.Y. will exhibit oil paintings, while “Rama,” international photographer, will display black and white images from his large body of work. Sculptor Walter Swales from Montclair State University will exhibit sensual steel constructions and Mike McAuliffe from Jersey City State College will display pop-culture graphics. Other notables are Wanda Blake, color-field painter; C.J. Cona, known for her animal portraits and memory boxes; Linda Vonderschmidt-La Stella, a maker of ceramic sculpture; Sam Ciresi, action painter; Nancy Berger Kraemer, known for her fiber arts as well as combines; Richard Kapral, a modern contemporary painter from Maine; Bob Ricciotti who works in modern abstractions as well as neo- minimalism; Jennie Schaeffer, a young pop-culture painter; Fred Thum, long-time graphic designer turned abstract sculptor; Hoppi Emberson an “outsider artist;” and Jim Kearns, painter/art professor from the School of Visual Arts. The exhibit is free. The Lafayette Mill Antique Center is located at 12 Morris Farm Rd., just off Route 15 in Lafayette. Summer hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays or by appointment.
