In the spring of 2007 West Milford Adult Community School will offer “Sewing Class for the Home.” Zulma Cardona, local resident of West Milford for over ten years, will offer her expertise on how to sew with emphasizes on decorating your home in an affordable manner, as well as secrets from the trade. Zulma Cardona has been sewing professionally for over ten years as a sole proprietor. She has extensive experience working directly with customers and designers, while also working for several fabric companies. She received formal training at the Custom Home Furnishing School in North Carolina. She will discuss style, color and various projects. For example, she will address making pillows with trim, table clothes, napkins and creating a table runner. She will also review different patterns, fabric yardage, laying out a pattern, cutting and pinning. Students may bring their own sewing machines to class. How to properly use a sewing machine will also be reviewed. The sewing aspect would entail pinning and sewing on the machine as well as pressing seams. Students will then work on their project and add the finishing touches to the items. Projects will be worked on in the classroom as well as at home.
