Newton - White-tailed deer are beautiful. When people move to the suburbs they love to see deer in their back yards. At first. Then the lovely creatures start eating everything that grows. While there are few things you can plant that will truly not be foraged by spring’s hungry deer population, there are some tips and tricks you can learn at the Deer Resistant Gardening workshop being held at Sussex County Community College. Deer Resistant Gardening will be facilitated by Brian Oleksak, who is the Horticultural Program Associate for Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension of Sussex County. Oleksak coordinates the educational and outreach efforts of the Master Gardeners of Sussex County. His articles on horticulture are featured monthly in the Sunday edition of The New Jersey Herald. This workshop will be held Friday, Feb. 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and costs $20 per person. For details and registration, call 973-300-2143 or visit the Web site at www.sussex.edu/cce.
