Calligraphy classes at Sussex college Newton - Sussex County native and award winning artist, designer and calligraphy instructor Kathy Milici, will be offering 3 course selections at Sussex County Community College/Corporate and Community Education. With more than 25 years of professional experience, she is a member of the Society of Scribes in New York City, and IAMPETH, the International Organization of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting. Trained by White House Calligraphers, Kathy has an enthusiastic, upbeat teaching style that is contagious and fun. The course offerings at SCCC/CCE are: Calligraphy: The Art of Beautiful Writing Designed for the beginner, the italic alphabet is a popular introduction. Also called Chancery Cursive, it is the handwriting of Renaissance scribes. Great for scrapbookers; this class can also be used as a refresher. There are eight 2-hour sessions; that begin Tuesday, February 20 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and costs $199. Calligraphy in the Celtic Style In this two day workshop, students explore the foundation, structure, and distinctive hand of the Celtic alphabet. Rich in the history of the Irish culture, this workshop is perfect for beginners and scrapbookers. Runs two consecutive Saturdays beginning May 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $149. Calligraphy Patterns and Decorative Borders For creative students of any level, as well as those who love Kathy’s fun and enthusiastic teaching style, this is the perfect workshop to learn to enhance and add flair to finished artwork and scrapbook pages. In this one day workshop, move beyond letterforms into patterned edges, simply structured borders, and linear decoration. Using broad edged pens, markers, colored inks, and gouache, students explore black and white and color samples in this easy, step-by-step instructional. This 1 session, 6-hour course will be Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $75. All necessary supplies will be provided.
