Lilac Workshops at botanical garden

— New Jersey Botanical Garden will sponsor two hands-on Lilac Workshops on Saturdays, Sept. 8, and Sept. 15, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
NJBG’s lilac team will be in the garden’s extensive lilac collection on both days to work on these sweet-smellng beauties. This symphony of color and scent is at peak bloom from late April to early June; fall care helps make that bloom even better.
Attendees and NJBG volunteers work with lilac expert Daniel Ryniec, former lilac curator at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, to restore and improve the New Jersey Botanical Garden’s renown lilac collection. Ryniec will give a lesson at 10 a.m. Working with the team is a great opportunity to learn by doing and get answers to any questions you may have.
The New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands is located on Morris Road in Ringwood. For an event schedule, membership brochure, directions or more information, call 973-962-9534 or visit www.njbg.org.
