Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County to hold Scrabble Scrimmage benefit

    Newton —The Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County will hold a Scrabble benefit, “Letters for Literacy,” on Saturday, March 3, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, in Upper Holly Hall, Church Street, Newton. The cost is $25 per person. Seniors, LVSC Tutors and students will receive a discount, paying $15 per person. All proceeds will benefit Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County. The public is encouraged to play the game where “every word counts,” for Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County, a not-for-profit organization that provides one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy and English as a Second Language, to adults in Sussex County. Students meet with a tutor for one hour a week, for a minimum of one year. There is no cost to the student for tutoring. Prizes for Letters for Literacy will be donated by Perona Farms, Greene’s Beans, Ward’s, Sterling Mining Museum, RONETCO Shop Rite, The Star Ledger, New York Giants, Morris Museum, Paper Mill Playhouse, Land of Make Believe, BJ’s, and Applebee’s.
